Hydropower plant monitors water level

Based on a decision of a local authority environmental department, we are obliged to keep and observe particular flow capacity, in other words the water level has to be always over the sluice.

„We decided to purchase the camera right after our surface sensing head was broken down. This equipment is measuring the height of water ray which is overflowing the sluice on the Jizera river. Based on a decision of a local authority environmental department in Jilemnice, we are obliged to keep and observe particular flow capacity, in other words the water level has to be always over the sluice. This specific water level has to be monitored by the surface sensing head, which basically opens or closes the flowing hole in the turbine. In the year 2010, the surface sensing head broke down and there was no water flowing over the sluice for two days. So the local authority in Jilemnice was notified by local fishermen and we were forced to start necessary administrative procedures,” says Mr. Evžen Pelikán, representative of the Hydropower plant (MVE) P&H.

The EyeSee camera sends pictures of the current state on the sluice to the competent person in the hydropower plant.

The problem with the possible “water overflow blackout” was perfectly solved with the EyeSee camera, which is permanently monitoring the water-level on the spot. Moreover it sends pictures of the current state on the sluice to the competent person in the hydropower plant.

„The distance from the sluice to the power plant is approximately 800 metres so the sluice is not controlled regularly. Therefore we decided to monitor the overflow via the EyeSee camera. Every day at 10am, the camera sends a MMS and an e-mail to both owners of the power plant.

The camera is located on the right side of the river Jizera so the whole sluice fits in one picture,” describes Mr. Evžen Pelikán. The camera EyeSee works perfectly not only in summer, but also in winter, when it is extremely important to monitor not only the level of the water in the river but also the ice coverage on the river.

We just check the situation over the camera

The periodical reports are especially helpful
